Speech Therapy

Speech therapy is a health profession with the goal to help persons who have speech and/or language disorders and swallowing or feeding issues. A speech disorder refers to a problem with the actual production of sounds. A language disorder refers to a difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas.

Guided exploration assists in speech development.

With children, the goal is to promote the development of a child’s speech and language skills in order to improve communication with family, peers and acquaintances.

Programming available to children includes:
  • Speech/language therapy – helps children learn how to produce sounds and helps children with receptive or expressive communication
  • Oral motor therapy – uses a variety of exercises to develop awareness, strength, coordination and mobility of the jaw, lip and tongue
  • Feeding therapy - Learn more...

Speech Therapy makes communicating with others fun.

Standardized evaluation instruments include:
  • Preschool Language Scale -4 (PLS-4)
  • Rossett: Infant Toddler Language Scale

With licensed therapists in three disciplines (occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech therapy), the Children’s Therapy Center can provide play-based assessments in all three areas at one time.
