Independence Camp
A one-week, overnight tent camping experience for children and adults with disabilities, and for their non-disabled friends and family members.
Swimming is a favorite activity at Indepedence Camp.
Scheduled for one week in July
- Children’s Camp: Sunday 2:00 pm – Wednesday 10:00 am
- Adult Camp: Wednesday 12:00 pm – Saturday 10:00 am
- Held at accredited Boy Scout Camp with accessible camp sites – Loud Thunder Scout Reservation – Illinois City, IL
- Full-time Camp Directors
- Full-time Camp Nurse
- Boy Scout staff on site
- Volunteer camp counselors provide one to one camper : counselor ratio
For every challenge there is a solution at Independence Camp.
Activities include:
- Swimming in accessible outdoor pool
- Fishing at Lake George
- Paddle boating
- Nature hikes
- Arts and crafts
- Campfire in the evening
- Special activities and fun for campers of every ability
A United Way grant to the Illowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America allows Independence Camp to be offered for a $25.00 per camper application fee.
