Independence Camp

A one-week, overnight tent camping experience for children and adults with disabilities, and for their non-disabled friends and family members.

Swimming is a favorite activity at Indepedence Camp.

Scheduled for one week in July
  • Children’s Camp: Sunday 2:00 pm – Wednesday 10:00 am
  • Adult Camp: Wednesday 12:00 pm – Saturday 10:00 am
  • Held at accredited Boy Scout Camp with accessible camp sites – Loud Thunder Scout Reservation – Illinois City, IL
  • Full-time Camp Directors
  • Full-time Camp Nurse
  • Boy Scout staff on site
  • Volunteer camp counselors provide one to one camper : counselor ratio

For every challenge there is a solution at Independence Camp.

Activities include:
  • Swimming in accessible outdoor pool
  • Fishing at Lake George
  • Paddle boating
  • Nature hikes
  • Arts and crafts
  • Campfire in the evening
  • Special activities and fun for campers of every ability

A United Way grant to the Illowa Council of the Boy Scouts of America allows Independence Camp to be offered for a $25.00 per camper application fee.
